Pre-Pre-SIP: Macros

Follow up of The plan is to start drafting a SIP proposal as soon as possible to collect early feedback on the design that we’d like to use in the new macro system. It’s early days, many decisions are yet to be made final. If you are interested in making an impact on next-generation Scala macros then now is a great time to join the effort. That’s the beauty of it, once you have the fundamental building blocks of black and white you can compose as many shades of grey as you need.

For “fifty shades”, we need a good joke for “shifty fades.” I know there must be such a joke, especially given the recent tweaks to shift operators.

Also, Sade’s “Smooth Operator” just popped into my head. She’s still so great, especially now that I know more about voice, I hope somebody comes up with a worthy smooth operator, of course with its own symbol. I’ll start the bidding at ~~.

I don’t know, but we already have a rough operator. It’s called ##, and it does exactly that: creates a rough representation of any object.

I didn’t bother reading any of the context for this, other than noting the “6 months later”, but I laughed out loud at “shifty fades”. Thanks for brightening my already-bright day, @som-snytt.
