FYI, old various Scala gitter channels are taken over by spam bots that publish malicious links. The old lampepfl/dotty channel is one example, but there are others.
This could also be a potential personal/organizational liability issue for the moderators.
I recommend to remove those malicious links and archive the channels (potentially with links to the new ones).
Edit: To clarify, in some cases there are two “copies” of some channels. One copy could be archived but the other is not.

Wow, haven’t looked at gitter in ages.
I agree that there’s been spam this year in a wide variety of inactive Scala channels – I see it everywhere from slick/slick
to scala-js/scala-js
to typelevel/cats-effect
. That said, most of it seems to have been from a single bot (braydon_plug001
), which appears to have gone poof in January – I assume Gitter clamped down on it.
So I don’t think there’s a crisis here, but I agree with the principle – given the wide-open nature of Gitter, unmaintained channels are basically invitations to be infested by spammers. The various organizations that own inactive channels (including the Scala Center) should consider either having someone at least occasionally monitor them, or shelve the channels.
